In the last days of march we once again visited Ojców. One of our main goals was to do magnetic survey in order to confirm structures that we have noticed on photographs from LiDAR  and later verified in the field during our last two visits in Złota Góra. These structures are probably ramparts. Magnetic survey will allow us to confirm their anthropogenic nature, but will also help to determine materials that were used to make them. Establishing chronology need farther studies.

On the photo there are elevations, which are probably part of ramparts. Without LiDAR photos their character would stay unknown. Phot.Małgorzata Kot

Beside doing magnetic surveys on Złota Góra, we’ve also visited Złodziejska Cave, which is situated in Jamki Gorge, Sąspowska Valley. During our last year survey we’ve discovered here signatures on the walls with dates from the turn of XIXth and XXth centuries. These are probably a reminders of tourist, who  visited this cave almost a hundred years ago.

Złodziejska Cave consist of a long (40 m), narrowing  towards the end, main corridor and a small side corridor, which ends in second entrance. Phot. Małgorzata Kot

Today Złodziejska Cave is located in a strict reserve and a special permission is needed to get there. However, at the beginning of the XXth century through the Jamki Gorge ran a road, the National Park didn’t exist, and the cave was easy to access. What is interesting, in no other cave in Sąspowska Valley we found similar signatures.

One of the inventarised signatures. Most of the signatures were made with a pencil, so many of them are difficult to decipher.  Phot. Małgorzata Kot

During our expedition we have inventarised and documented signatures on the walls. It will allow us to take a closer look at the history of Sąspowska Valley in the XIXth and XXth century.
