Sąspowska Valley in Prehistoric Times

Garncarskie Rockshelter

Posted on 14 December 201826 January 2019
Garncarskie Rockshelter, view from the Yellow Trail, leading through Sąspowska Valley. Phot. Małgorzata Kot

Located about 150 m from the mouth of the Jamka gorge, on the southern slope of the Valley, 5 m above its bottom. It is a high, small niche. In the nineteenth century near the shelter lived a potter . The rockshelter is named after the stove, which was built using the stone wall (Garncarskie means pottery). A characteristicly cracked wall of the Rockshelter is an evidence of a high temprature that was used here.

Plan of  Garncarskiego Rockshelter, marked is a trench by Waldemar Chmielewskiego with structures recognized by him.
